Hello,
I am planning a new Windows 2003 server roll out which will consisit of:
(2) Domain Controllers
(1) File Server
(1) Mail & FTP Server
(1) Intranet (Sharepoint) & Windows Update Server, ISA Server
I'd like to spefically ask the question relating to DHCP. I'd like to have
a
different IP range for the various 6 departments so for example:
Sales - 10.17.19.0 - 254
Service - 10.17.20.0 - 254
Comms - 10.17.21.0 - 254
Servers - 10.17.18.0 - 254
Everyone will be on the same subnet so they can talk to each other. I will
be using 4 DHCP scopes to define each range along with making the various
MAC
addresses reservations for that particular department.
My Q is will my plan work, and if so how will it work exactly I am not
fully
100% on the understanding of running multiple IP addresses ranges on one
physical network I've never bulit such a large network, the networks I
usually bulit on AD and Win2k3 used only one IP Address range, not
different
ones for each department.
Anyone's input is appreciated.
Thanks,
This should work just fine. Set your subnet mask for 255.255.0.0 and they
will all be on the same subnet. Technically the 10.x.y.z range is a Class A
subnet and should have a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0, but since you're setting
your 2nd octet at .17, I'd recommend the subnet mask of 255.255.0.0
Good luck, let us know how it goes!
