here's what i'm trying to do:
i have a file in a shared folder. i want people to be able to see that
file, open that file, see the contents of that file, fall in love with
that
file. but i don't want them to be able to change it, copy it, or rename
it.
i'd thought i could accomplish that by changing the permissions on that
file
to read only. obviously, that's not correct.
This is not possible through any practical means.*
your post, michael, seems to indicate that i'd need to take away the write
privelege in that directory. i'm gonna give that a try.
* You would actually have to remove the "write" permissions to ANYWHERE
the user can access.
Meaning the user could have no effective My Documents/Home directory, Temp
directory or any other locations to write ANYTHING.
Once I can read a file, I am always free to write that file to another
location
where I have privileges, even to a floppy or USB thumb drive if you allow
removable media for that user.
