Ive had similar problems. I installed SP2 on 2x DC's running standard
edition and one Terminal server running Enterprise edition. The first
DC had ris on it, after running the new software deployment services
wizard and configuring it in mixed mode ris wouldnt work at all.
However I installed a test box and installed SP2 and ris was working,
until I ran the software deployment services wizard again. After
checking all settings I had no joy at getting ris to work in mixed
mode. I also started getting errors in the event log about it not
having processed a promotion or demotion event properly when I hadnt
promoted or demoted anything. The second domain controller (which
contains users home drives) was also experiencing the same error in
the event log. The reason I say it contains users home drives is that
after installing SP2, any vista clients on my network (I had a few
test boxes setup) that had a drive mapped to the secondary server took
absolutely ages to browse any drive or even open 'my computer'. After
installing SP2 I also noticed a big slow down across the whole domain,
i.e logging on, browsing. So, like yourself I also decided to
uninstall.
After uninstalling everything returned back to how it was. Ris was
working again and vista clients were able to browse mapped drives
(also unc paths) normally again. I had no option to uninstall. BUT...
now after uninstalling, my 'ad users and computers' (dsa.msc) snap-in
doesnt work (i presume because the service pack overwrote it with a
newer version). Also, on the domain controllers- if I try to run an
executable from a mapped drive or unc path I get an error about not
having permissions to do so!!!!
For consistency and piece of mind I uninstalled SP2 off of my terminal
sever. As far as I can see it has had no detremental effect on the
terminal server itself.
I am going to reinstall my 2 domain controllers though. A 45 minute
reinstall with a few share permissions to setup will be far quicker
than trying to correct each and every error caused by SP2.
