Hi gerry -

#1 - If you do not have R2 installed on the machine, SP2 will not lay down
R2. If you have R2, then SP2 will update the R2 components with the latest
Sp2 bits.
#2 - To be more specific, If you are using a slip stream or a full
product
build to upgrade to SP2, certain applications and components (such as
Internet Explorer® 7 and Windows .NET Framework 2.0) do not function
properly. If any applications or components stop functioning, you may need
to reinstall them. If you upgrade using update.exe, you will not encounter
this problem. Most people upgrade using update.exe from the Download
Center,
or from Windows Update.
#3 - You do not need to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 in order to
uninstall
Windows Server 2003 SP2. I apologize for any confusion this point caused.
I'm getting the documentation updated to be more specific. This note is
just
about scenarios where users with to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 after
SP2
install. If you want to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 after installing
Windows Server 2003 SP2, you must uninstall the components in the correct
order. To uninstall Internet Explorer 7, first uninstall Windows Server
2003
SP2, and then uninstall Internet Explorer 7. For more information, see
article 823836 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

Hi,

I starated reading the notes about Win2k3 SP2 and some things are
confusing.

Here are my questions:

1. It says it "supersedes" the R2 release of Win2k3, does this mean it
will
put all the R2 components onto the Win2k3 SP1 server? The confusion is
that
the "CD-ROM" version of SP2 says you have to run the R2 components as a
separate update? Here is the link, scroll down to where it says "Note".

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsserver/sp2/overview.mspx

2. It says in the release notes, "If you are installing SP2 on a
computer
running SP1, to ensure that certain applications and components (such as
Internet Explorer® 7 and Windows .NET Framework 2.0) function properly,
install SP2 by using Update.exe. You can obtain Update.exe from the
Microsoft Download Center
(http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=85446 ).
"

What does that mean? The link doesn't even take you to "Update.exe", and
how
does WindowsUpdate get round this?

3. It then says in the release notes, "If you installed Internet
Explorer
7
after installing Windows Server 2003 SP1, you must uninstall Internet
Explorer 7 before you install Windows Server 2003 SP2."

But that would mean 3 reboots?? Uninstall IE7, Install SP2, Reinstall
IE7
(unless it's in SP2?)

Again, how does WindowsUpdate cope with this?

Thanks for any help.
