Not.... Totally
For example, if I exit Outlook 2003 on my workstation, and then shut down
the main DC, when I re-launch Outlook 2003, it says it cannot find the
Exchange server. (The Exchange server is a third machine, not a DC).
Sounds like DNS is on the shut down DC and you have not pointed your users
to the second DC for their preferred DNS server.

We have two W2K DCs. One of them is quite old but sill runs fine. The
other is newer and has all FSMO roles.
When I turn off the main DC (the one with all the roles) then things do
not work right. Shouldn't the other one be able to handle authentication
and AD searches even when the main server is off?

We have a simple one-forest, one-domain, one-site, one-LAN setup. All
machines are on the same switch.
