Thanx for the last time but we also tried this but it does not help. This
solution is a client-side change, which has to be done on each client
computer, over which we dont have the full control.
But until now we realized that there seems to be no way to solve the problem.
Whats so annoying about this Problem is that you can fiddle with every
unnecessary little option in Windows Server 2003. But the really
useful/necessary things are not possible.
Thankx for all your attempts to help but we should just stop it here.

Sorry to tell you that even a NON-Administrator-User can still see the
"hidden" Printers in "Printers and Faxes" although noone (not even the
Admionistrator User) sees the hidden Printers (printer$) directly under
\\server\.
Thankx for any help in this case.

Administrators on print server will always see the printers there even they
are or not shared, regular users dont.

Thank you again for your help,
but we tried that also and it does not seem to work.
When I browse the Server with \\<servername\
I see the shared Ressources and the "Printers and Faxes" in which I again
see ALL Printers, even those which should be hidden due to a sharename like
printer1$.
Any way of getting rid of that Printers and Faxes. If we can get rid of that
it would be okay since then we can use the hidden shares with $ signs.

hi,
on the server :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print create key DWORD
type DisableServerThread with value 1
reboot server.

Thankx for the reply but that does not solve my problem.
I need to hide the Printers on the Servers Side as I don´t have full control
over the Windows XP Workstations connecting to the Server.
Thankx

hi,
Windows XP automatically searches the network for shares and printers upon
connecting to the network. This is probably useful in a SOHO or home network
but not the enterprise. To disable XP automatic discovery:
In Explorer, click Tools
Click Folder Options
Click the View tab,
Uncheck Automatically Search for Network Folders and Printers in Advanced
settings list.

Hello,
I am desperately looking for a way to hide shared Printers on a Windows 2003
Server
from the Network i.e. they should not be seen when browsing the Server
Shares but still be accessible when one knows the correct share name.
I can use the $ in the share name to hide the Printer but then it stills
shows up unter
Printers and Faxes. I found now way to disable that Printers and Faxes.
Can anyone help please. How do I disable Printers and Faxes so its not shown
when accessing via Network
Thankx a lot.
