The only difference I can see between what you are doing and what I tested is that your current backup has the same file name as the one that won't backup? This could be a bug. I don't have time to test it today. When I do get time I'll update the thread.

I think it might have something to do with shadow copy, but I am not sure.
However, what is disturbing is that there are no errors and the file is
never backed up.

I just tried it and had no problem backing up a previous backup file called
backup.bkf. The problem is most likely a permissions issue or a timing issue
in that the backups are overlapping and the file is in use. Can you backup
the file from the GUI? If you are using a script does the file get backed up
when you run the script from a cmd prompt? Try not using the /l:n switch and
see what the log says.
