win2k3 Server dies when SP1 added

Win2k3 enterprize,
One DC server no more no less running AD DNS.

I run Windows Server 2003 SP1 install then it no longer worky right..

I reboot after install.

First thing I notice is no ethernet connectoid in control panel->network
anymore,
but device manger says ethernet contoller present and is working correctly.

I see errors in event log, the rpc server is unavailable. cannot fine the
machine name, domain name,
group policy processing is aborted.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1053
Date: 2/7/2007
Time: 8:18:02 AM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: MAXIMUS
Description:
Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (There are no more
endpoints available from the endpoint mapper. ). Group Policy processing
aborted.

I get an ipsec error, says I'm blocked. so I disable that service from
starting then reboot.

after reboot, all the same, no connectoid in cp->network, but...ipconfig
says I have an IP!

lo, I can ping myself. and a client. and my gateway, and yahoo.com.
So I can surf, but still no connectoid, and no little icon in the system
tray and nowhere
to make sure its should be.

next, I find DNS can't connect and THATS not working.
feels like this machine logged onto itself and entirely forgot it was a
domain controller.

Next, I find out that the network connection and ICS services wont start;
I assume one needs these for the firewall.

So there I am twiddling my thumbs with a useless DC upon which my Clients
would like to be authenticated someday soon.

so I reenable IPSEC service and I uninstall SP1 because it's a cluster of
errors. I get an error uninstalling. while
reverting, it says I have an unsigned driver, and do I still want to install
it? Hell yes
put it back the way it was jerk off! I reboot and everything is just sweet
as pie. back to normal.

So I have an unsigned driver but which one? who knows. there are onle a few
hundred drivers lying around here...

What I am: lost, dazed, confused for so long I dont know
What I need: Direction how to install SP1 minus all the BS.

Thank you,
James Long
