Ok, I will try these experiments when I get back on Tuesday. I have many
gigs of space available on both the source drive and the target drive. The
source is a mirrored drive.........any impact?

I tried to run MS backup to an external hard drive today. Available
driveon
the drive is 88 gig. The backup process stopped, telling me that there
was
not enough space on the drive or the backup file is too big for the
command(sounds like a redundant error to me). Anyway, it wouldn't completethat
for
reason. The file is not too big. Anyone know what causes this error?
You need to tell us a little more, e.g.
- What backup program do you use? ntbackup.exe?
- What is your command line?
- What file system does your external disk use?
Thanks for responding
Used the Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|Backup wizard. (No
line)
External disk is NTFS.
OS is Server 2003
As a server administrator I'm sure you know that ***every***
application has a command line, without exception. Check the
Task Manager and tell us what it is!
Run this independent test to determine if your external disk can
accept large files. Let's assume the backup file is about 10 GBytes.
Type these commands from a Command Prompt and report the result:
fsutil file createnew G:\Big.bin 10000000000
dir G:\Big.bin
Lastly, run your backup wizard on a small folder and report the
result.
