Well thanks for the help, I have now got it corrected. I had to seize
all the 5 fsmo roles as guided by
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/255504/en-us

I dont know why I had to do that as I was able to get into the
policies long before now and after I had removed the old server.

Thanks again

Tim

I could post some of the event logs, but nothing in them indicate
there was any problems with getting into the policies,

I came across this error because I had the following error "security
policies where propagated with warning. 0x534 No mapping between
account names and security ID was done"

which I've found that a old user account was deletes but not removed
from the group policy. And when I went to go to go into the policy
to correct that error thats when I get the original error

Hello Tim,

Please post the eventlog entries, that we have more information and
describe what you have done before the error.

Hello,

I'm having an odd problem when I try to open up either the Domain
Controller Security Policy or Domain Security Policy. I get the
following error

Failed to open the Group Policy Object. You not have appropriate
rights.
Details Box:
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be
contacted.
This is the only server in the domain, not sure whats going on, I
had
been able to access it previously.
Tim
