Hello aquamm,
Make him member of the domain is the easiest and secure way. He can also work with his domain account local, when his is at home.
Best regards

We have a windows 2003 domain in office and have shared folders which
are accessable for all domain users on one of the windows 2003
enterprise domain servers. apparently we have a user uses a lap top
(windows xp professional) in the office and his home. the lap top does
not joined the domain.
this user's user name for his laptop is the same with that of his
domain user account but the password of the laptop account is
different from his domain user account.
the problem is when he is using the laptop, he can not access the
shared folders on the domain server. he can not get a pop up window
for domain log in every time when he trys to access the domain shared
folders. his domain user account will be locked after couple of
attemps. the error message is "\\server is not accessible. you might
not have permission to use this network resource. contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have access
permissions. the referenced account is currently locked out and may
not be logged on to."
the only way for him to access the shared folder for the laptop is to
use "net use" with his domain user name and password.
looks like the winxp laptop tries to use his local credential to
connect to network shared folder. and his account is be locked out
because his laptop local password is different from his domain
password.
how I make sure the domain log in window always pop up and allow user
to enter their domain user name and password?
Thanks
.
