We use 2k3 server, with two telecommuters who work via terminal services.
One of these workers uses a CAD program on his computer in home office.
He
needs to print his CAD drawings to our internal large format network
printer.

I've seen several articles about printer redirection, etc, but I haven't
been able to figure out how to give a remote worker access to a network
printer when using a program local to his machine.

help appreciated.

Run mstsc.exe on the TS client, then set the various parameters
including the one that makes local printers visible during the
terminal session.

If the local printer is still invisible during the TS session, install the
driver for an HP LJ4L on the TS client, then try again. There is
no need to physically connect an HP LJ4L. If the HP LH4L is
visible then you know that your general configuration is correct.

You should now install the driver for the local printer on the
TS host. After the third or fourth connection attempt the local
printer may become visible. If you cannot see it then the printer
is not supported for TS sessions. This happens for most DOT4
printers and also for many multi-function printers.

Thank you for your reply. And please excuse the ignorance that might be
evidenced by my question: Is this a method to make a printer visible that
is local to the client, or local to the host (i.e. terminal server)? What I
need is for the corporate network printer to be visible to the remote client
for a program that runs only on the client. Basically, I just need him to
be able to connect to the corp network, and print off his CAD drawings from
the CAD software that is on his laptop.

Again, I apologize if you've already answered my question. I just
interpreted your first instruction as making his home network printer
visible while on a TS session, and that's not what I need.

Thank you,

jm
