Re: Wrong Disk Free Space

Hi, Thanks for the tip.

I wasn't able to use ADSTools. It should be a shareware program, but it
didn't run unless I got the serial number (after paying).

So I did some research on ADS and I tried both LADS from www.heysoft.de and
Streams from Sysinternals.

Both gave the same result: only 234 bytes of ADS in my drive.

It's a shame, because your tip was very logic. That means it must be
something more hard to find.

So if anyone has any other ideas, please tell me. I could make a backup of
my partition and format it, but this the last solution I want to use.

Thanks

There might be file stored in NTFS alternate data streams. Windows
Explorer do not report the data in alternate data streams as part part
of total file size.

Download this ADSTools to verify if there are any ADS files on your
system:

Hi,

I have a windows server 2003 with SP1, it's just a file server and domain
controller. No Exchange, SQL or other "heavy" services.

I have a partition of 25GB (total capacity 23.9GB). The total of files and
folders in this partition ocupies 3.36GB (3.34GB Size, 3.36GB Size on Disk),
including all hidden and system files, according to the properties in
explorer.

The problem is that free space in explorer is only 5.79GB.

In the properties of the partition drive, it shows 18.1GB Used Space and
5.79 Free Space.

Shouldn't it be 3.93 Used Space and 19.96 Free space?

Where did all that space go?

I don't have disk quota enabled, nor shadow copies. I turned off Indexing
for this drive, but nothing changed.

Can anyone help me on this, please?

Thanks
