Hello,
I was looking for a forum on remote desktop and server 2003, I am
assuming this goes in the general category. I set up a terminal server
on 2003 server and the users cannot seem to use their local printers. A
previous server was set up the same way (AFAIK) and they were able to
print to their local computers but they cannot from the new server
(same version of server as the one that worked). Some have printers
attached to their client computers such as with LPT or USB. There are
network printers on the terminal server and they can use those printers
ok, but not their local printers. The options in the remote desktop
connect program has printers ticked so it should work. Also in group
policy there doesn't seem to be anything prohibitng printer
redirection. The terminal server uses full security instead of relaxed
security, could that make a difference? There are 4 people with local
printers like this and none of them can use their printers any more.
It depends on the printer. Some printers, e.g. those using a DOT4 port,
won't be visible in an RDP sessions. Others will be visible if the driver
is installed on the client ***and*** on the host machine.
Test your settings by installing an HPLJ 4L driver on the client.
No need to connect a physical printer! If it is visible in an RDP
session then your settings are OK.
.
