I agree about restoring backups vs. copying, but I think you are being a bit harsh w.r.t. partitioning software. First of all, it's very unusual to have a problem and you can usually resolve it be a call to tech support. Secondly, the person who had to re-install deserves what happened. When using software like Partition Magic, the first step is to *ALWAYS*, *ALWAYS*, *ALWAYS* (did I mention *ALWAYS*?) backup the drive. They obviously did not do this and, as I said, deserve whatever happened to them.... :-(
