Re: Ping doesnt work

What you report sounds very unlikely. Would you care to
support your report with some actual log files? I suggest this:

From a Command Prompt during a console session on the server:
echo Console Session > c:\test.txt
ipconfig /all >> c:\test.txt
c:\windows\system32\ping.exe aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd c:\test.txt

From a Command Prompt during a remote desktop session on the server:
echo Remote Desktop Session >> c:\test.txt
ipconfig /all >> c:\test.txt
c:\windows\system32\ping.exe aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd c:\test.txt

Please be sure to type the full path for ping.exe!
Post the contents of c:\test.txt in your reply.

Hi!,
Iam doing a direct RDP connection to the client server from my office PC.
I
did not establish a VPN connection.
Thank you
Hari

If you get a "request timed out" message then ping does
actually work as designed, and it tells you that it is not
getting a response.

I suspect that you set up your Remote Desktop session
via a VPN rather than making a direct connection to the
target machine. If so then your ping would time out even
before you set up the RDP session. The cause is most
likely an incorrect configuration of IP addresses in your
VPN setup.

Run the command ipconfig all and have a close look at
your settings. You should also check the IP settings of
your VPN setup (via Control Panel / Network and
Dial-up Connections).

A simple way to overcome your problem is to use a
direct Remote Desktop connection instead of a VPN-based
connection.

HI!
I get the "request timed out" error message.
Iam trying to ping the internal pc by the IP address as well as the PC
name - for both I get "request timed out" message.

FYI - I have 3 servers at the client place. Iam doing RDP from my
office
to
client place D.C.
Iam able to ping to the other 2 servers (mail , file server) from the
D.C,
but not any of the client PC's

Thank you
Hari

Hi,
When we RDP to a server from outside network and try to ping to a
computer
on the internal network from the server, PING doesnt work.
Iam pretty sure the computer on the internal network is connected to
the
server and PING work fine when used within the internal network.

Can anybody pl let me know why ???

Thanks
Hari

What do you mean with "doesn't work"? Are you saying that it
times out? Are you pinging the internal PC by name or by IP address?
