Hello Joel,
That is an old article that shouldn't apply any longer. If the wrong files
are copied over and replaced you may see problems like that.
There are multiple hal and ntoskrnl files that are available. The
installed hal and ntoskrnl for your system are detected and renamed during
the installation process to hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe. This is recorded in
the \windows\repair\setup.log file.
Both the original source name and hal.dll are on one line.
Example from a setup.log from one of my machines. You need to use the
setup.log file from your machine to ensure the correct files are used.
\windows\system32\hal.dll = "halmacpi.dll" , "1do8dd"
location\filename = "source filename that was renamed) , hash
So in this example you would need to locate halmacpi.dll from your source
(install cd, service pack, hotfix) copy to \windows\system32 and rename to
hal.dll
then repeat the same process for ntoskrnl
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

<After replacing a system drive and loading windows in c:\window2 I then
used
<an NT backup and restored the D drive. When I rebooted I got the load
<needed dlls for kernel. According to article 164448 of microsoft I loaded
<the hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe from sp1. When I rebooted now I am getting a
<Blue screen with no particular message. (just about anti virus stuff).

<Any ideas how to proceed?
