RE: load needed dlls for kernel

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hello Joel,
That is an old article that shouldn't apply any longer. If the wrong files
are copied over and replaced you may see problems like that.
There are multiple hal and ntoskrnl files that are available. The
installed hal and ntoskrnl for your system are detected and renamed during
the installation process to hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe. This is recorded in
the \windows\repair\setup.log file.
Both the original source name and hal.dll are on one line.
Example from a setup.log from one of my machines. You need to use the
setup.log file from your machine to ensure the correct files are used.
\windows\system32\hal.dll = "halmacpi.dll" , "1do8dd"
location\filename = "source filename that was renamed) , hash

So in this example you would need to locate halmacpi.dll from your source
(install cd, service pack, hotfix) copy to \windows\system32 and rename to
hal.dll

then repeat the same process for ntoskrnl

Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]
