Re: Server 2003 Repair

Dave,

Thanks for the response. If I read you correctly you are suggesting that the
system is not using the correct drivers for the controllers and that I need
to provide those alternatively at the F6 option.

I need to stew on that a bit...

Perhaps it might help to know that I was able to get to a safe mode boot but
it complains that I can't run in safemode in a setup load. What I really
need to do is to get the setup stuff off so I am not in the repeated loop of
setup.

Any ideas?

I will check on the driver thing, the part that bothers me about that
suggestion is that it is a Dell server with an OEM copy of server 2003 and I
am using the Dell OEM disk to boot from; my experience is that the correct
drivers get loaded.

Not much to go on here but if your drive controller is not natively
supported then you'll want to boot the Windows Server 2003 CD-Rom. Then *F6*
very early and very important (at setup is inspecting your system) in the
setup to prevent drive controller detection, and select S to specify
additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to insert the manufacturer
supplied Windows 2003 driver for your drive controller in drive "A". This
also would hold true for the controller the CD-Rom drive is connected to.
