Hi All
Solved my problems.
Since I was able look through the eventviewer though another computer I
found an error that
I was missing a MSVCP50.dll when I put it in /root/system the
eventvwr.msc started to work.

Hi Joe,
The quickest way might be to do a repair install of windows and the updates.
This would replace any system files that
No guarantees that this would fix it though as I'm not sure what's causing
the problem.
Read these articles before you try this:

Sorry I can't be of more help, perhaps someone else has some ideas.

I was not able to see the "Network Identification Tab" or get access to
event logs by going through safe mode.
This all happened when deleted old files like these {in order to
reclaim space}$MSI31Uninstall_KB893803$[on windows 2000 server] I
cannot remmber the exact naming.
Any ideas to what to do next?[dont have backups to fall back on- even
if we did wouldnt know what files to bring back]

Are you able to run MMC.EXE or EVENTVWR.MSC directly from the system32
folder? Is the system32 folder in your path statement?

Nancy,
When I enter start>run>MMC that snap window doesnt pop up as usual.
I did some system updates not too long ago; I had one update that kept
coming so I
stopped autoupdate service and removed WindowsUpdate.log and
SoftwareDistribution folder and restarted the autoupdate service. The
"MS Access update" stopped appearing. Maybe no relation to this problem
I have.

Hi Joe,
Safe mode loads windows with the minimum it needs to run.
You would then need to have a look at the software you have installed to see
what might be causing the problem.
Some information that might help:
*Have you ever been able to access the file? If so, when?
*Are you able to open other snap-ins? (Event Viewer is an MMC snap-in).
*Have you installed any software or updated anything lately?
That should narrow down where to start looking ... i.e. if you could open it
2 weeks ago but can't now, what has changed in the last two weeks.
Let us know how you make out.
