Re: Roaming Profile stopped working

Hi,

Permissions are OK - I can log onto any other PC, save a file on the desktop
(for example) and that file is copied to the users\username share OK.

If I then go to my laptop and logon it loads and the file created on the
other PC appears on my desktop. It seems that my laptop just won't save
anything to the profile but it can read it OK.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Arnie Dapiss

Thanks for that. I tried it but it did not cure the problem.

I now have another profile 'sameusername.domain' under documents and
settings. I copied all of my files across and tried again with no
success.

If I log onto any other PC with this username it updates the
users\username folder correctly.

Could there be anything else on the PC causing the problem - i.e. a file
in application settings or local settings since I have copied all files
over?

Thanks,

Arnie

on 1/09/2006, Arnie Dapiss supposed :

take a look in the registry under
HKLM\software\microsoft\windowsnt\currentversion\profilelist\

under there you will see a list of profile settings for each user who
ever logged in represented by that user GUID

under there you can find where your profile is pointing to
sometimes this points to a local copy
just remove the GUID tree and log in again
offcourse you cannot cut the tree you are sitting on, if you know what I
mean

check the NTFS permissions on your own user folder
you should see your accountname listed with full control
if you want to make sure you could reset all permissions on child folders
and files by going into advanced settings

don't ever do a manual copy of objects in your profile if it doesn't work
automatically
first resolve the problem and then you can hack away
