Yes, I meant between partitions or drives because a copy within the drive
will just move pointers around. What you have suggested will do the same,

Hmmmm,
I copied a 5mb file to the HP NAS from a network location at around 2
minutes, then copied the same file across the drives and it took
seconds! Does that mean its network related? I have updated drivers on
GB NICs, changed GB LAN switch, changed patch cables, and still no joy!


Two further tests I will try:
1 - Connect my laptop up directly using a crossover cable and see if
its still slow
2 - Stick a USB drive on and copy over LAN to that. Presumably if thats
still slow its gotta be the NICs or network related. If its not then
RAID is suspect?

Would you agree?
