I have the same need and cannot get this to work. What do you mean
when you say:
If your company has a public Wifi, then setup a server with printer
connected to it and ask them to print to:
\\servername\printer
The only way I can get the printer added at all is to go to run and
type in \\server, which prompts me to authenticate to the domain. If I
enter a domain credentials, I can add the printer but it is
disconnected the next time I reboot. When trying to go through the Add
Printer, wizard, I can see the print server when I browse, but I cannot
open it up to see the printers.
What am I doing wrong here.

hardware using a cable before they can print or they can print directly
through a public wifi in your company?
