Hello all,

I recently started a new admin job a few days ago. Just recently,
everything is slow on the network, from user workstations they
complain about the slowness when opening and saving files to the
network drives, when I open windows explorer it usually takes 2
minutes for it to fully list all drives whether local or mapped
network drives.

We have 2 DCs, and 1 Exchange.

Here is info for each:

SVR1: (DC, DNS, DHCP,FS)
IP = 192.168.7.201
SUBNET = 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY = 192.168.7.2
DNS 1 = 192.168.7.201
DNS 2 = 192.168.7.202
SVR2: (DC, DNS, DHCP)
IP = 192.168.7.202
SUBNET = 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY = 192.168.7.2
DNS 1 = 192.168.7.202
DNS 2 = 192.168.7.201
EXCHG:(just Exchange)
IP = 192.168.7.200
SUBNET = 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY = 192.168.7.2
DNS 1 = 192.168.7.201
DNS 2 = 192.168.7.202

I am actually a bit stuck. After about 5 years doing admin work, I
have never had this issue before. I rebooted SVR2 and EXCHG, SVR1 is
currently heavily in use.
Where should I start looking? I tried reading through a few of the
posts and some have similar issues and it was a DNS issue.

Thanks in advance for any help.

On the workstations, if you open a command prompt and run a 'net use'
command, do you see any drive letters pointing to unavailable shares?

Are these users running a login script? If so, it should be set to delete
all mapped drives & then re-map them, and should use the /persistent:no
switch (presuming it's a basic batch file running net use commands).

If it isn't that, try posting an unedited ipconfig /all from one of the
problem workstations. Also, are they using a hub or a switch, are they set
to use autosense or are the NICs locked down at a specific speed & duplex
setting... ?
