Re: Size limitation for compressed files ?

Hi
Zip has a limit of 2 GB to my knowledge. Try using WinRar instead. I have
pasted the "limitations" for winrar below (taken from winrars helpfile)

"The number of files, which can be added to an archive, depends upon the
amount of available memory and the length of file names. Roughly 128 bytes
of memory are required per archived file for RAR archive. For example, it
can take about 128 MB to compress one million of files. WinRAR has been
tested to handle over one million of files.
The size of a RAR archive, as well as the size of any single file within
a RAR archive, is limited to 8,589,934,591 GB (9,223,372,036,854,775,807
bytes). Note that to create archives larger than 4 GB, you need to use NTFS,
as older file systems do not support such large files."

Hello everyone,

I have a really big file (more than 80 GB) that I don't use anymore, but I
want to keep it just in case. So I would like to zip it (not just compress
the NTFS folder, because I may want to store it somewhere else).
With XP, there was the compress.exe command. I can't find it in Windows
2003. Is it gone or do I search the wrong place ?
I tried freeware (IZArc), but it fails at a given point, saying the header
is wrong. I guess it can't manage such a big file.
Does anyone know how I could compress this file ?
