RE: Very slow response from server

Hi Joe,

Since issue happens intermittently(twice in three weeks), the
troubleshooting process maybe time-consuming & troublesome. However, please
be rest assured that I'll try my best to be of assistance.

From your description, the file sharing became slow to respond, I suspect
it can be a disk issue. I suggest you backup the disk at first.

I know the problematic PC is a file server & printer server, we can
considering:

1. Replace a new NIC to see if it is a network issue.
2. Attach a stand-alone disk to the machine and share some files on them to
see if the response still slow.
3. If possible, I suggest you boot into safe mode to performe some
operation locally to see if it takes a long time for a response(opening a
folder, right-click for properties, etc)

Let me know the results and I'll try my best to be of assistance.

Have a good day.

Best regards,

I have a win 2003 x64 SP1 server that has become unresponsive twice in
the
last 3 weeks. It clears up with a reboot, but looking at the logs, task
manager, etc I find nothing that indicates it should be unresponsive.

This server is an HP DL360G4 with seperate OS raid 1 SCSI360 drives and
Raid
5 network share drives. It is a file/print server. It has 2gb of mem with
=1gb free. Task manager indicates at max around 20% CPU useage. THere
are no
entries in the log with antything abou resource running low.

That happens is network printing becomes very slow, file shares become
slow
to respond, and the local login is very slow also. When doing any task
when
logged in locally it takes a long time for a response (opening a folder,
right-click for properties, etc)

Where should I start to look?
