Hi,
I would suggest using the registry setting, but if you want to do it with
group policy you can create a separate organization unit on the domain and
place the server in it or, as you said, create a local group policy, which
is applied last. Try the registry first, it should work. If not, then try
changing the group policy.

thanks anton.
Can i set this group policy on the local machine local policy (member
server) without affecting other servers. or would it be preferable to use
the
registry key implementation

Hi,
Windows 2003 does not allow you to enable Remote Desktop, if you are
using
Offline files. It will also no allow you to enable Offline files, if you
are
using Remote Desktop or Terminal Server. Run gpedit.msc on the server
again
and navigate to the following key:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files
Setting: Allow or Disallow use of the Offline Files Feature
Setting Options:
Not Configured
Enabled
Disabled
If this setting is set to either Enabled or Disabled the option to
configure
Offline Folder is grayed out. I suggested RSoP because it generates group
policy that is applied to your computer (domain or local). I was also
able
to find a registry key that disables Offline files and enables you RDC:
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE/SYSTEM/CURRENT CONTROL SET/TERMINAL SERVER. Open and
modify the key fDenyTSConnections to >0<.

Thanks Anton,
I have run the RSOP with the server which i cannot configure for RD,
and a
member server which is working fine. The only difference i can see is
an
entry in the Extra Registry Settings, No Active Desktop, which is set
to
'1',
apparently set in the local group policy on the working server. Would
this
have an affect??
It is very strange...

Andy,
Discard my previous post, because I misunderstood your question and
the
changes won't help. Run Resultant Set of Group Policy instead to see
if
there are any changes for the Offline files.
1.. Start / Run, type mmc
2.. Click File and Add/Remove Snap-in
3.. Click Add
4.. Scroll down to Resultant Set of Group Policy and click Add
5.. From the Action menu choose Generate RSoP
6.. Open Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Network
\
Offline Files
7.. See if there are any settings
Export and the delete all the values, except the default value, in the
following registry key:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Netcache
Sorry for the mistake. Hope this will help.

Hi,
I am trying to enable Remote Desktop on my Windows 2003 Standard
member
server. It says that to enable i must disable Offline Files.
On attempting this, the "Enable Offline Files" is greyed out so that
i
cannot deselect it.
Any ideas how i can sort this out so that i can disable offline
files
.
