Removable Storage

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

We have a standalone server with a standalone tape drive. We have two tapes
(Week1 and Week2) that we rotate every Monday. The backup script that we use
specifies the tape name as Week1 or Week2.

Every Monday night a scheduled task backs up to that weeks tape and the rest
of the days we do incremental backups. On the holidays where we don't work
on Monday, Week1 sometimes gets backed up to Week2 tape and in Removable
Storage we now see two Week1 tapes, one being offline and the other being
available. When the incremental task starts, the error is a non unique tape
name was specified. I have to manually go in and dealocate and delete the
duplicate, offline tape, then the daily incrementals will work.

Is there a way to get around this by overwriting any duplicates in Removable
Storage.

I hope that makes sense,

Denny
