Re: Machine Check Error.

Hi,

These event messages may be logged in the System log in response to a
Machine Check Architecture exception. A Machine Check Architecture
exception is sent by the CPU in the computer in response to a computer
error. The computer error may cause the computer to restart. After the
computer has restarted, the CPU reports the Machine Check Architecture
exception to the hardware abstraction layer (HAL). The HAL uses Windows
Management Instrumentation (WMI) to report the Machine Check Architecture
exception to the operating system. The operating system then logs the
Machine Check Architecture exception in the System log as an event ID.

I agree with Jabez that you may need to check the *.dmp files because it is
really a serious problem.Unfortunately, we cannot help you analyze the dump
file in newsgroup. To trouble shoot this problem efficiently, I suggest
that you speak directly with a Microsoft Support Professional so that the
crash dump can be analyzed.

For a complete list of Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) phone
numbers and information about support costs, please go to the following

I hope that the above information can be of assistance.

Hmm... I would say, check the *.dmp files for clues.

Also since this is your 1st timei and Event 106 stated that it has
corrected, let's trust it for a while. If you are getting lots of these
evetns lately, then it's another story. :)

Hello,

I have an HP Proliant DL380 with dual 32-bit Xeon 3.2Ghz which has been
running W2K3sp1 for almost a year now without any issues.

It is also a Domain PDC and GC.

Today it logged the following events:

Event 26: Windows - System Error - A machine check error occurred.
Event 106: WMIxWDM - Machine Check Error reported is a corrected error.

A google search returned:
- 64bit hardware/software issues - obviously this is not the problem.
- a reference to this being an indication that the processor is failing.

My questions:
- does this indicate a problem with a failing CPU?
- if so, is there a way to figure out which CPU (dual CPU
configuration).

So far I've only recorded ONE event on the server. But I've never seen
this
event before on any of my Compaq/HP servers running NT, W2K or now W2K3.

This hardware is still under warrenty.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can give me.
