Re: W2K3 R2 with Mountpoints and Linked folders

Hi,

From Georgi [MS]:

A couple of this to mention:

1) The scenario of putting auto apply templates on the root a mounted
volume is actually supported. Mount the volumes and the use the FSRM console
to go create the auto apply template on the mount point. It will be created
on the root of the mounted volume

2) The customer mentions something about links which leads me to believe
that in addition to the mount points they are creating a mirror hierarchy
which they use for sharing and link the subfolders to the user folders on
the mounted volume. If this is the case I really need some specific details
of what exactly they are doing. This very much sounds like an issue that PSS
send us.The issue is not specific to FSRM and is actually a manifestation of
a filter manager behavior.

Thanks for the response. I was able to setup the Auto Quota when I
pointed at the actual directory and not the folder that it was linked
into. This needs to be changed for our installation to work well.

Brief overview: On our cluster, we have adopted the model of a 1GB base
disk and then we mount multiple 300 GB disks as mointpoints into a
folder structure. This seems to give fairly quick move times and if a
disk does do a checkdsk, it is much quicker and other mountpoints can
be online while it does checkdsk. For some areas, there might be 3 or
4 mounted volumes that need to be accessed beneath a single shared
folder so we have to use linkd to create the correct directory
structure.

We need to be able to set a quota at this top level (on the base 1GB
disk) and have it apply to subfolders (which are linked folders from a
mountpoint) for this product to be fully useful and replace our current
production (3rd party) software. Any plans that this will be supported
and when it will be supported? Any other limitations I should be aware
of with the brief overview I've given?

Thanks for responding!
