Group Policy Help

I run an AD domain with windows server 200 and all xp client machines.
I'm trying to set-up group policy objects that install software and run
small batch files when a user logs on to client machines. I have to
roll out new software, patches etc quite frequently. I've read all of
the How-to's on group policy and have followed their directions down to
the letter.

I would love to create GPOs that would install these patches based on
whether or not a user belongs to an OU or a user group. Ideally, all
user that belong to that OU or user group woyuld install thses fies,
updates, batch files as soon as they log on to their machines in the
morning. Can this be done or am I way off base?

I can get it working by altering the software install (user
configuration) on my local machine but the GPO doesnt propogate to
other users in the test group/OU. Now I have installed the admin pack
and GP Management console on my local XP machine. I've created the
GPOs on this level as well as on an actual Win2K domain controller in
the network. Nothing work.

Someone please help!!
