Domain renaming blues...

Hi,
I'm following Mark Minasi's domain renaming how in 'Mastering Windows
Server 2003. I need to change a single label domain to a dotted one.
Let's us call it mydomain to mydomain.lan.
I have created a new DNS Forward lookup zone called mydomain.lan.
My DC's (I have only one) forest is at win 2003 functional level.
When I tried to create a new trust between mydomain and mydomain.lan I
couldn't because it did not find mydomain.lan's DC (of course). Is it
still important to create a trust in this situation? If yes how do I
proceed?
When I do rendon /list from a member server I get the following
domainlist.xml:
<?xml version ="1.0"?>
<Forest>
<Domain>
<!-- PartitionType:Application -->
<Guid>ec510b45-fea6-4dd3-8568-be2abf82a128</Guid>
<DNSname>DomainDnsZones.mydomain</DNSname>
<NetBiosName></NetBiosName>
<DcName></DcName>
</Domain>
<Domain>
<!-- PartitionType:Application -->
<Guid>bc187fec-d5ab-4f05-9f2a-84f923078536</Guid>
<DNSname>ForestDnsZones.mydomain</DNSname>
<NetBiosName></NetBiosName>
<DcName></DcName>
</Domain>
<Domain>
<!-- PartitionType:Application -->
<Guid>954505bf-7fad-4bca-85ec-27aa8d1a6d9b</Guid>
<DNSname>TAPI3Directory.mydomain</DNSname>
<NetBiosName></NetBiosName>
<DcName></DcName>
</Domain>
<Domain>
<!-- ForestRoot -->
<Guid>93a285bc-f6b1-4c4c-bf62-1b647a3ea7d2</Guid>
<DNSname>mydomain</DNSname>
<NetBiosName>mydomain</NetBiosName>
<DcName></DcName>
</Domain>
</Forest>
Most important question: Do I need to replace all occurrences of
mydomain with mydomain.lan in the file above?
Thanks a lot for comments on these issues.
best regards
Tor
