Dear Jabez,
Thanks so much for that fast response. I tried calling somebody but, like
too many people at schools taxed with administering networks, you could
hear
the smoke coming out of their ears in the shape of question marks.
I managed to narrow down the desired issue to one of being able to simply
be
able to manage folder quotas. That is to say, set quotas on folders. I
did
a quick scan of the web for such resources and found serveral. However,
since I know that there are so many resources made available to schools by
way of a School Campus Agreement (which, if I read things correctly, means
they have automatic software assurance) that there may be a resource on
the
of the many, many CDs they receive from Microsoft which may include a
pre-R2
utility that will enable them to set quotas on folders.
Alternatively, is there one out there that they could obtain either free
or
with minimal cost. They are a school and their budgets are very, very
lean.
Regards,
Walt Ellena

Yes you will need to get a new license to use R2. It's not free.
However if you have Software Assurance, then you can get it for free.

Dear Colleagues,
I have been asked a question and am now obligated to find an answer.
To
begin with, let me thank you for your forthcoming advice.
One of my clients is a school. They have a school campus agreement and
have
licensed Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. Service Pack 1 is
installed
on the aforesaid machine.
I see that R2 has some neat features, most of importance at the moment,
is
the ability to manage quotas on a folder level rather than a volume
level.
The question is, having purchased a Server 2003 Enterprise Edition,
what
is
the upgrade path for R2 without having to seek a third party software
company
to enable folder quotas. Whether or not they have the "software
assurance"
program is unknown, so lets assume that they dont for the time being.
Thanks in advance.
