RE: Application Error Event: 1058 Source: Userenv

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi Scott,

Thanks for posting here.

>From your post, my understanding of this issue is: you get the Userenv 1058
error in your 2003 server. If this is not correct, please feel free to let
me know.

Are there lots of Userenv 1030 errors? If your 2003 server is a DC, these
errors may occur about every five minutes. Have you install SP1 for 2003
server? If not, you may try to install SP1 and this may resolve this
issue. For more information, please see:

Group Policy processing does not work and events 1030 and 1058 are logged
in the Application log of a domain controller
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842804

If you have installed SP1, I recommend you may refer to the following KB
article to troubleshoot this issue:

Applying Group Policy causes Userenv errors and events to occur on your
computers that are running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887303

I recommend you may refer to above KB article to check each step of
following eight steps, and let me know the results:

1. Examine the DNS settings and network properties on the servers and
client computers.
2. Examine the Server Message Block signing settings on the client
computers.
3. Make sure that the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service, the Net Logon service,
and the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service are started on all computers.
4. Make sure that Distributed File System (DFS) is enabled on all
computers.
5. Examine the contents and the permissions of the Sysvol folder.
6. Make sure that the Bypass traverse checking right is granted to the
required groups.
7. Make sure that the domain controllers are not in a journal wrap state.
8. Run the dfsutil /purgemupcache command.

Hope this helps!

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,
Tom Che
