thanks again Mike.
1) So its safe to say that the common mmc snappins (those not installed from
the adminpak) are somewhat 'backward' and 'forward' compatible. eg. using
win2k event viewer snap-in can be used to view logs of 2k, xp, and 2k3
machines; and 2k3 event viewer snap-in can also be used to view logs in 2k,
xp, and 2k3 machines. correct?
2) as for the adminpak, you can only install it on the 'matching' client OS
version, like 2k to 2k and xp sp1 to 2k3, correct?
3) based on this a follow up question arises. This may have already been
implied by what you already told me but I want to make sure I understand:
Considering the adminpaks have to match OS client & server versions I assume
the 'server' services that the snap-ins from the adminpak contain can ONLY
be used to manage the matching 'server' services versions; eg. a 2k DHCP
snap-in installed from 2k adminpak on 2k client can ONLY be used to manage a
2k DHCP server, not a 2k3 DHCP server... and vice/versa, a 2k3 DHCP snap-in
installed from 2k3 adminpak on xp sp1 client can ONLY be used to manage a
2k3 DHCP server and not a 2k DHCP server. Correct?
thanks again.... I am finding these questions hard to articulate well.
Hopefully I am being clear.
