Re: web hosting

Frank....thank you very much for your response.... please have patience with
me, I am new on all these network/server stuff :( ...... sorry!
below please find more questions to your answers :) thanks again <Angie><

1. I don't have an static IP just yet.... I will get it soon....however, do
I need it right now?

2. I have cable connection at a 256kbs speed...I am not sure if this will be
the same for uploads

3. I need to ask if my ISP will allow me running a server

4. what do you mean by "Stand up Web Server"? here is were I start to get
lost! sorry!

5. program website? would this be Front Page?

6. Keep Web Server behind company firewall? I have a router connected to
the server, I read the router's manual and it offers firewall.... do I need
to do something here, or when I installed W2K3 it already configured it?

7. how can I get a private IP? and make sure my router is the gateway entry?
perhaps its already set up this way....how can I make sure?

8. what do you mean by "Configure your router to port-forward to your Web
Server for incoming
WWW requests"? do I have to access my routers page? what do I look for once
accessed to config?

9. I have a registered domain, but is parked were I bought it.

10. there after I got lost: = At your registrar, configure your external
DNS record to point to the
>public static IP of your router. (this is free if you register your domain
>at the link above. Otherwise, that outfit charges 10/yr for DNS only) ??? I thought, I just needed to purchase the domain and run it from my server? when you mention at your registrar, do you mean, the person who I bought the name from?

11. "If you want email on your domain, create A records and MX records If
email, also create a reverse DNS record (at your ISP or wherever you got your
public static IP addresses (not usually your registrar)" can I create all
these on W2K3 my self?
