permissions to read event logs

what permissions are needed to have a domain account READ server event logs?
how do you set the permissions?
i have an account, a service account, that will be using WMI to poll our
servers for event log data.
given the rule of 'least permission necessary' to do the job, how can i give
this service account the minimum rights to query a server's event logs using
WMI?
PS. I already have a fully functional script that can query the event logs
on a local development machine. when that script runs to query the non-local
machine (e.g. a server) it fails because of rights/permissions.
