I have had my Win2K3 Ent Ed server running for over a year. I have automatic
updates turned on. It has been running terrific until last Friday, when I
decided to reboot it. It hung on the initial loading screen and will stay
there for hours. I have been able to start it in Safe Mode. I enabled Boot
Logging and checked he ntbtlog.txt file.
It says it loads a number of drivers up until it reaches the ACPI
Multiprocessor PC. It says, "Did not load ACPI Multiprocessor" and then get
many more "Did not load..." Statements. Some of them were repeating every so
often. Later on down the files, there were a few things loading. Many more
still not loading.
In Safe mode, I can bring up Task Manager and see that both pocessors are
working. This is a Abit BP6 running dual 466 Mhz Celeron procs with 768 MB
RAM & dual WD 160GB HDs. If it was a hardware problem, I would expect it not
to boot into safe mode. I am not running APC PowerChute although I have the
server plugged into a Back-UPS 650, its not attached to the serial port.
Should I try to boot with my CD and do a Windows repair?

Oops! Shouldn't have touched that with screwdriver while plugged-in.
