Shadow copy filling hard drive, unable to turn off.

I am running Server 2003, with a raid array. I have about 160 GB on my e:
drive and it has filled up with 132 GB's of shadow copy files. I was first
alerted that something was wrong when I attempted to remote desktop into the
server and check on some apps. Remote desktop didn't work. I verified that
my remote desktop setup was unchanged on both ends but couldn't find out what
was happening. At this point I checked the logs and found some issues
related to disk space.
Upon checking my e: drive, I found 132 GB's of used, yet unaccounted for
space, with only about 4 GB free. I finally found the files and they were in
the "system volume information" folder on the drive. After further research
on this folder I found that it holds the backup information.
Every attempt to click on the tab for shadow copy on the properties window
of the e: drive freezes that window. Any attempt to go into disk management
is unsuccessful as well.
As you can see, the lack of available disk space is severely hindering my
ability to solve the problem of lack of available disk space.
I have read through many posts both here and on other tech sites and found
some information on using the "vssadmin" command. Is this my best bet, if
so, can someone give me more specific switches/arguments to use with this to
either turn off the shadow copy or recover a majority of the space?
Also, are there other things I should be looking at that might also be
causing these problems?
Thanks in advance,
BD
