RE: write cache reverts

Hello Chris,

Thank you for posting.

Based on my experience, you got this warning message because write caching
is disabled on a disk that contains the Active Directory database
(Ntds.dit) by default. Also, write caching is disabled on a disk that
contains the Active Directory log files. This can help to enhance the
reliability of the Active Directory files.

To resolve this problem, we can move the Active Directory database and the
Active Directory log files off of a disk
In which you need to enable write caching. For more information, see the
following article:

257420 HOW TO: Move the Ntds.dit File or Log Files

Hope this helps.

| Hi,
| I'm trying to enable write cache on few Windows 2003 server (DCs and
member
| servers) as described in
| http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324805 but after
and
| hour or less, I'm getting in event log:
|
| Event Type: Warning
| Event Source: Disk
| Event Category: None
| Event ID: 34
| Date: 2005-08-19
| Time: 14:07:47
| User: N/A
| Computer: AVN
| Description:
| The driver disabled the write cache on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR1.
|
| Servers have array controllers with batteries as well as they are powered
| through UPSes, so I'm not worrying about power loss. How can I
permanently
| enable write cache?
| thanks,
