Hello,
Thanks for the post.
According to the message, I understand that the domain users often get
locked out after Exchange is deployed in a win2k domain. Please correct me
if I am off base.
Since this issue affects many users on your domain, I assume it is an
urgent issue. If this is the case, I would suggest that you contact
Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) for a more efficient way to
work on it.
Please note that our private partner newsgroup is focused on break fix
issues that are neither urgent, nor complex. If the issue is urgent to your
business, it is recommended that you contact CSS via telephone so that a
dedicated Support Professional can assist you recover the server in a more

You are also welcome in the newsgroup if this is not too urgent. Regarding
this issue, I would like to give some related information. At first, I
would like to confirm the following information with you.
1. Do you configure an account lockout policy in the win2k domain?
2. Do all the win2k DCs have SP4 installed?
Please refer to the following article to lockout issues which are resolved
by installing SP4.
264678 Increased account lockout frequency in a Windows 2000 domain

3. Is this password issue related to Outlook? Since you mentioned "Password
Problems in Outlook", I am not sure whether the users logon to Outlook and
get password issue or just logon to machines in the domain and get this
issue.
Please refer to the article below if the issue is that users log on to
Outlook from other domain or workgroup.

4. What is the domain environment? How many DCs do you have?
At this time, I would suggest that we try the following suggestions and
then check the effect.
Step 1. Check the affected user states in a win2k DC.
==================================
Please make sure the users are locked out.
1. Open "Active Directory Users and Computers" on a win2k DC. Please access
the program by Start->Programs->Administrative Tools-> Active Directory
Users and Computers.
2. Right click an affected user account and select Properties.
3. In the Account Tab, check whether the item "Account is locked out" is
checked.
4. If this is the case, please clear the item. Then we may use the Account
Lockout Status to track the issue to find the cause.
Thanks, Norman, for your great suggestion.
Step 2. Modify the account lockout policy.
==========================
If you have configured the account lockout policy, I would suggest that we
temporarily remove the policy to check the effect.
If issue persists, I would like to have the Application Logs on the win2k
DC. It would be best to be the DC which holds PDC emulator role. Please
follow the steps below to get the log and send it to v-franhe@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
for further research.
1. Click Start and select Run.
2. In the Run box, type "eventvwr" without quotation marks and press Enter.
3. Highlight Application Log and right click it
4. Choose Save Log File As¡ (menu) from the context menu
5. Save it as Application.evt and send it to me as attachment.
Hope this helps. If the issue persists, please feel free to get in touch!
Best regards,
Frances He
