World web publishing service hangs

Hi

After upgrading our win 2000 server at the windows update web site it is no
longer possible to start the "world wide web publishing service", I recive an
error message numberd 1053 claiming that the service can not be started in a
timely fashion.

Searchin the net I find a microsoft article numbered 886695 claiming the
error is seen on win 2003 servers (no information on win 2000 servers). Here
two solution are suggested one solution is to allow the service to interact
with the desktop, this is not possible, the serwice hangs when i try, the
other solution is a hotfix for win 2003 servwers so that one I have not tried.

Anyone who has seen somthin similar and can suggest a solution?

Best regards
