RE: Logon Screen Object Does Not Appear On Server's Local Monitor

Hi Westernwind,

Based on your description, it is hard to determine if the root cause at
present. The best way is to directly use the keyboard and the mouse to test
this issue since this issue randomly occurs when using Rariton switch, more
important is that this issue cannot be consistently reproduced. Therefore,
troubleshooting this kind of issue could be a time-consuming task.

I understand you will contact Rariton to get the new hardware, changing the
new hardware is very helpful to troubleshoot this issue, please make sure
all cables are correctly connected.

On the system side, I would like to provide the following suggestions:

Suggestion1:
============

Technically speaking, Exchange 2003 service should be shutdown first, then
shutdown Windows as the following article has stated. I would like to
confirm if you have composed a script to shutdown Exchange service? Please
not use the script and shutdown the Exchange service one by one in CMD,
does Windows shtudwon process smoothly finish?

Suggestion2:
============

I suggest you refer to the following article to perform a Clean Boot on the
problematic machine, it is the same in win2k3 DC. Please always keep the
system in Clean Boot, which is helpful to troubleshoot this issue.

In addition, I suggest you open the Event Viewer to check if there is any
error or warning in the system and application log. Technically speaking,
the server will log the Event if last shutdown is unsuccessful, however,
the event may not log with "shutdown". You may consider refer to the
following article to gather MPSRPT_DirSvc.EXE and send the report to me at
v-rebc@xxxxxxxxxxxxx for research.
