Client spontaneously removed from the domain?

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello,

I'm the only IT person in our small office. I came in this morning and the
user who sits across from me was having trouble signing into his computer. I
looked at it and noticed that there was no drop-down that gave him the option
to sign on locally or to the domain. I signed in as the Administrator locally
and checked the settings and sure enough, the computer was part of "WORKGROUP"
not our companies domain.

This user sits across from me and left the office before I did yesterday. I
know that there was absolutely nothing wrong when he left yesterday. Has
anyone seen this happen before? What could cause this? I didn't notice that
his virus definitions where out of date by a couple weeks, but looked and
couldn't detect anything fishy going on other than the computer was completely
removed from the domain and set to login to "WORKGROUP".

Any ideas?

John
