server 2003 smart card deployment

I have a domain (windows server 2003), forest functional level set at 2003.
Root enterprise CA, and subordinate issuing CA set up and working, I use a
windows xp tablet pc 2005 system to administer this network, with an 02
micro smartcardbus smartcard reader (provided with the system (acer
travelmate 302XMi)).

I have issued myself (through the web enrolment) an enrolment agent
certificate, and an administrator certificate (just in case) both were
issued and installed correctly, CA is trusted.
But when I try to issue a smart card certificate using the "request a
certificate for a smart card on behalf of another user by using the smart
card certificate enrollment station" I can select smart card user, gemplus
gemsafe (and all other providers), I can select the administrator signing
certificate and the user I want to issue the certificate to it tells me to
insert the smartcard and click enroll, when I do I get an error, the details
of which are below.

EventID 610: Source: SCardSvr.

Smart Card Reader 'O2Micro PCMCIA Reader 0' rejected IOCTL EJECT: The
request is not supported.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Now what I want to know is, is this the device, the card, or the CA causing
an error? What can do to fix it?
