I wound up editing the boot.ini and adding a selection with a swtich for safe mode. But.. how do I install recovery console? I am not aware of this and why I would do it. Please advise.

You still use F8, but you have to be fast and lucky. On most machines holding down the F8 key will not work - you have to keep stabbing F8 as soon as you turn the machine on and hope your timing is good.
A workaround is to install the recovery console - a good idea anyway. This creates a boot menu. When the menu comes up, the server installation will be highlighted. Hit the Enter key and then immediately hit the F8 key.

I am running HP proliant ml370 and want to boot into safemode, I don't see the option on boot up like on regular machines, like press f8 for
advanced
options. Help, I got up extremely early to do this, and I can't get into safe mode to complete my task.
from the CD. Run this command in DOS.
