RE: Windows 2003 Domain Browsing (NetBT) Problems

Hi Chris,
I also have a similar problem, in my case it's being unable to browse across
networks. Both networks are running Windows 2003 without SP1.
Here's a couple of the things I've tried which might help you:
On the master Browser (the PDC) run regedit and goto:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters\MaintainServerList
Change this to YES
Next change IsDomainMaster (under the same key) to TRUE.
Save,exit and restart the browser.
If that fails or the changes are already in place try this:
Access restrictions
1. On the \\current_browser_master server, where \\current_browser_master
is the computer that is the master browser, verify that the Access this
computer from the network user right is granted to the Everyone group. This
can be verified by:
Open AD Computers & Users, Canalystest.com.
Right click and select Properties, Group Policy.
Edit Default Group Policy
Select Computer Configuration, Windows settings, Local Policies, User Rights
Assignments.
Click on Access this computer from the network and add the Everyone group to
it.
Save the policy and apply it via GPUPdate
2. In the system log, verify that the Server service has no intermittant
problems. (Such problems may be caused by file system filter drivers.)
3. Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA
Check the setting of the RestrictAnonymous value.
When the RestrictAnonymous value is set to 2 on a Windows 2000-based domain
controller, the Browser service cannot retrieve domain lists or server lists
from backup browsers, master browsers, or domain master browsers if these
computers also have the RestrictAnonymous value set to 2. Therefore, any
program that relies on the Browser service does not function correctly.
They may not have worked for me but that could be due to the unique set-up.
Hope it helps
Dai
