Only one problem? (And it’s sad when an intelligent, well respected and helpful person resorts to ad-hominem attacks.) You can do better.
No, the problem is not *me*. My ‘advice’ is corroborated by sources I cited. I didn’t make it up of whole cloth.
Unless you have other information (I didn’t find anything at MS which recommended a third-party boot manager to dual boot XP and Server 2003.)
Nor is it disputed that PM is prone to alter the geometry of a disc.
Does anyone dispute the value of an disc image – Of as much valuable data on your drive? What is *your problem* with a ‘bootable‘ image?
Why, given the luxury of a second drive - Well, why would it not be wiser to isolate the second OS from the drive where the other OS resides?
What’s the worst that can happen? What the worst that can happen if they share the same disc?
Do you not believe it is wise to have a backup of NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM and BOOT.INI?
Have you not known of System Restore to become corrupt? Is it wise to rely on that single function and ignore a backup?
Just what features (the dual boot of XP and ‘03) is boot.ini not able to fulfull?
Is MS on the record for not supporting it for that purpose? Where?
Drivel?
No, most of what I wrote was cited. So, your burden is to find fault with MS as a source for much of what I wrote. The other references are sound as well.
I still respect you?
I’m not sure what prompted the invective. Maybe gas?
I doubt a point by point critique of my ‘plan’ would not also reduce other well respected sources? - - To a position where you might have difficulty should you chose to rely upon them in the future?
Feel free to ignore my points. Burry your head in the sand – Hardly what I’d expect of you.
Or, do take the time and examine the sources I cited? It isn't about *me*.
See, if it is drivel - I’m not going down alone!
No, I will have the privilege of being in good the company of people who usually are not accused of spouting dirvel.
I expected you relied on similar sources. It appears you have greater faith in third party solutions? Not that I don't use them? First I must be assured that they are *better* -- not just *different*.
