Access Servers From Home

Windows 2000 Server with Active Directory. I'm looking for general
information on a way to be able to unlock user accounts from home as well as
work with others apps like Exchange and virus protection. What would be the
best way for 3 administrators of the network to get connected from home?
Citrix?? VPN?? If using a VPN do the applications need to be installed
locally on each home PC?
