changing motherboard and IDE to SATA
Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance
hi,
i have a dell poweredge 1600SC with a fully configured windows 2003
server running on IDE, and i need to transfer that to a dell poweredge
750 with an SATA drive. it would be a pain to go through all the
configuration again.
i am guessing that the motherboards will be similar, the big difference
is the SATA hard disk controller, and the 1600SC is a dual capable xeon
system, the 750 is a single processor system.
i plan to do a partition copy/paste using BootIt NG from the IDE to the
SATA drive, does anyone have any tips or suggestions to give me a
better chance of it working? the IDE drive is configured with one NTFS
parition.
i read a post on this group where someone suggested going straight into
a repair on the new drive, and choosing the second repair option to
update the HAL, is this recommended here also?
thanks for any help
tim
