Broadcom NetXtreme NIC

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Setup: IBM x205 server with onboard Broadcom gigabit NIC. Runs Server 2003
with exchange 2003. Server connects to gigabit port on 3Com switch. The
server runs 24/7, but I normally have some reason to reboot about 1/month.
My last reboot was 3/3/05 and today (4/4/05), the NIC just stopped working.
It didn't go to "sleep" as this was an actively running server during regular
business hours. No errors in the event log, all other servers and computers
still connected to each other, but this server totally offline. The light on
the switch is "fast blink green". Switching ports is no help. Cannot get
back online until reboot. This has happened 2 times before. After the 1st
time, I downloaded all updated drivers and installed. Things went fine
because during normal work, server gets a regular reboot.

Two questions: Any ideas what is happening to the NIC? Is there any way to
reset a NIC other than rebooting?

Any ideas are appreciated. Otherwise a regular reboot will have to happen.
